Danson Sports was established in the summer of 2005 by our current Club Chairman and CEO Steve Rayner to provide children from local communities with an opportunity to meet new friends and have fun while learning the basics of football. The Club has grown significantly from its initial ten 8-year-old members to over 700 members ranging from ages 4 to Senior. The Club now includes over 50 teams, a Soccer School, over 130 volunteer coaches and managers, and a dedicated board of Committee Members and Trustees.
The club is focused on providing football and enjoyment for people of all ages, abilities, races, and genders within the local community. Since its founding, the club has achieved significant growth and numerous milestones. In 2013, the club attained 'Charity' status, followed by securing a long lease on Mayplace Playing Fields as their home ground in 2014. Intensive efforts led by Trustees revitalized the grounds, facilities, and clubhouse for the upcoming season.
Through fundraising and support from the Football Foundation, the club replaced an old sand-based all-weather pitch with a new state-of-the-art FIFA-rated 3G facility. In 2015, Danson Sports received the FA ENGLAND 3 STAR Accredited club award, the highest accolade for a football club, showcasing the hard work and dedication of everyone involved.
Ongoing projects include refurbishing the clubhouse and changing rooms, and the addition of Licensed Bar facilities alongside existing Café services. The club aims to further develop with plans for a new double-storey clubhouse.
Danson Sports employs two full-time and eight part-time staff, with oversight provided by a board of Trustees. The club offers quality training programs for children aged 4 to 18, with opportunities to join various teams from U6 to U21, including Senior teams. Emphasizing inclusivity, the club's motto is 'Football @ Every Level', catering to players of all abilities.
A popular Soccer School is available for the youngest members (ages 4 & 5) to learn football basics while having fun. The club fosters community and social connections among parents, carers, and players. All Managers, Coaches, Committee Members, and Trustees are fully committed, DBS checked, and qualified in their roles, with qualifications ranging from FA Level 1 to UEFA A License.
